David Paul Kierce

Your lead teacher in your daily technique and classical repertoire classes. David will guide you through every step, and have you dancing with more confidence and grace by the end of the weekend.

David is just about as experienced as they come. He was a Principal Ballet dancer with Northern Ballet and BalletMet Columbus. He also danced for Joffrey Ballet, and The Joffrey Ballet, Chicago and Queensland Ballet where he started his professional career. After he finished his critically acclaimed performing career he went on to be Ballet Master at Northern Ballet and has since taught and coached at many ballet companies around the globe. David has created his own programme of Adult ballet classes based on his years of experience with a focus on strength, posture, confidence and artistry. He is a true Australian, full of fun, enthusiam and passion for his art. Just being in a room with this man will fill you with energy and have you falling in love with ballet in seconds. He will make you work hard but you will feel the benefits and enjoy the experience every step of the way.

Hannah Bateman

The organiser and producer of The Ballet Retreat, also your lead teacher in your daily warm-up and cool down and relaxation classes. Hannah will personally make sure you get the most out of Ballet Retreat experience.​

Hannah is currently a professional ballet dancer with Northern Ballet, she is a Leading Soloist and performs many principal and soloist roles, she is also a complete fitness and nutrition enthusiast. She has taken part in the Clore Leadership courses and has been on the Dance UK Mentorship for future Arts Leaders. In 2014 her Co-Choreographed ballet The Three Little Pigs was nominated for a childrens Bafta and she produced and organised the 10th Anniversary gala for the Academy of Northern Ballet in 2014. She is creative, organised and passionate about sharing her love of ballet and dance. Hannah will be your direct contact with any questions or concerns you may have, as well as taking care of the everyday running of The Ballet Retreat

Gavin McCaig

Lead teacher on our Corps de Ballet for the Day retreats and assistant and coach on our Leeds two and three day retreats. Gavin will share his love and enthusiuam for ballet and encourage and guide you every step of the way.

Gavin is from Motherwell, Scotland and trained at The Dance School of Scotland. Four years later he received a scholarship to study at English National Ballet School, also working part-time with the Dance School at the Royal Academy of Dance. During his graduate year Gavin undertook a placement with Scottish Ballet performing Christopher Hampson's Hansel & Gretel. He joined Northern Ballet in 2014 and has since toured nationally and internationally in most of Northern Ballet’s current repertoire including David Nixon OBE’s The Great Gatsby, Cinderella, Nutcracker, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid; alongside Jean-Christophe Malliot’s Romeo and Juliet as Acolytes, Kenneth Tindall’s  Casanaova and Cathy Marston’s Jane Eyre.  More recently Gavin was part of Northern Ballet’s performances at The Royal Opera House in London dancing Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Gloria.

Georgina Jobson

Lead teacher in your daily warm-up and cool down classes on the Retreats in London. Fully quailfied pilates teacher and Royal Ballet trainned dancer and classical ballet teacher, she knows it all! 

Georgina joined trainned at White Lodge and The Royal Ballet Upper School and upon graduation joined Northern Ballet in 2002. During her time with the company she danced many principal and soloist roles and created the title role in Sleeping Beauty and Ophelia in Hamlet. She retired from the stage in 2012 and completed the Royal Ballet School professional dancers teachers course graduating with a distintion. She also trainned as a pilates teacher with Alan Herdman , the man responsible for bringing pilates to the UK. She is currently the Classical Ballet Tutor at the Rambert School. 

Andrew Dunlop

Our very own pianist for all the Leeds Retreats. There is nothing like live music and Andrew is one of the best.

Andrew is the Company/Orchestral Pianist for Northern Ballet. He also he regularly works as a Staff Pianist for Lake District Summer Music, the National Children’s Choir of Great Britain, Renaissance Arts, the Geneva International Summer Festival and Academy of Music and is an examiner for the ABRSM. Andrew is the Artistic Director of ‘Lorn Live’ Chamber Music Festival in Oban, Argyll. Previously, Andrew has worked as a Staff Pianist/Coach for Leeds College of Music and taught Keyboard Skills at the RNCM. Andrew is a Samling Scholar and Concordia Artist.

He received his Doctorate from the Eastman School of Music in New York, having graduated with a MMus (dist.) and BMus (Hons) from the RNCM, Manchester. From 2011-2012, Andrew served as the John Wilson Junior Fellow in Collaborative Piano at the RNCM.
